Day 8 part three

You meet Commander Wood (no joke) of the USS Pogy. He has been trailing two Alfa class subs 300 miles Northeast of Norfolk. Jokingly the target display read "Pogy-Bait 1 and Pogy-Bait 2". (I just got a kick out of that). They decide not to engage because the message was sent out that they were part of a rescue squad but Commander Wood decided to follow them because the Pogy was built with stealth technology that the Alfas can not detect. Pogy-Bait 2 is known to the soviet navy as The E. S. Poltoviskiy. The reactor on this sub depressurized in three seconds after thousands of pounds of pressure had built up, also fission happened in the engine room. They surfaced very quickly and the Pogy took notice of this. But then the sub started sinking and when it hit the floor surprisingly at the front nose of the ship there was trapped air and only 40 men out of roughly 90 had made it to that part of the sub. there was very little power in the emergency battery to run the complex environmental control system. Sadly they were sparred a quick death from the crushing sea only to face a slow and painful death of asphyxiation.

Day 8 (continued)

Arbatov gets back a message from Russia saying that a sub has gone missing and they are conducting a search. Half a lie and half the truth. Without Arbatov's consent the president snaked his way into "helping" the Russians find their sub. Arbatov had no choice but to accept. Back at CIA headquarters the MIT grad (Tyler) Finlay made the program on the performance of The Red October. The program shows that at ten to twelve knots which would be the ideal operating speed of The Red October there would be a distinct sound to look for. One can assume it was the same sound Jonesy found earlier on the USS Dallas. Tyler then explains why the Red October is so hard to detect because it emits a totally different sound that sonar men aren't used to and that the sound is so minor that even if you knew what you were looking for it would still be hard. Jonesy got lucky, but the guys back at the CIA don't know about that. Tyler is so smart that he was able to put together the main picture of The Red October defecting to America. This baffled Greer and another person was then sucked into this predicament. And it is confirmed that if the U.S. finds and captures The Red October that they will eventually have to give her back.

Day 8

Ryan wakes up on the Invincible where the scenario has changed. Apparently while he was sleeping the whole entire Russian fleet had gained ground on them and he was needed immediately. The President was met by the Ambassador from Russia, Alexei Arbatov. The president tries to ask why the Russians have ordered so many ships to sea but no matter what the ambassador continues to keep quiet on the subject. The president tries to persuade him with the fact that with so many Russian ships and American ships out there in the open sea, very destructive incidents could happen. He tries to say that if the Ambassador tells him the reason for their fleet in the Atlantic he could issue the correct orders to his men and thus avoid an accident. The Ambassador still refuses but he will transmit the presidents message back to Russia. After the Ambassador leaves the president wonders if he was to harsh or if the ambassador would take the bait, The president knew Arbatov knew about The Red October but he wondered if Arbatov knew that the Americans knew about it.

Day 7

Ryan has been flown out the the carrier ship the Kennedy. He is on a mission for the CIA in a joint force effort between the U.S. and Britain. Naturally he was chosen because of his good ties with England. He will eventually be transported to the English carrier the Invincible. The USS Dallas's sonar man Ronald Jones has discovered something on sonar. It is a very feint sound and he records it then speeds it up enough to realize that the sound he is hearing has to be man made because it occurred at a steady interval. They believe it to be a Russian sub and asked permission to go after it. This request was permitted, and they estimate the route the Commander of the Russian sub might take and set course to cut it off. Little did they know but this was The Red October. Back on The Red October Petrov the sub's doctor believes that there is a radioactive leak on the nuclear sub due to the fact tags that everyone wears a radioactive indicator tag and that some people were being exposed to it more than the norm. Ramius orders to keep it quiet and between the two. He has a young officer check the hot piping in the submarine for any radioactive spikes but did not find anything. Ramius believes that is good enough even though they did not check everywhere.

Day 6

The CIA and Ryan have now concluded that the only plausible reason for the mass scrambling of the Soviet vessels is that they are now after The Red October. They know this because intelligence reported that the Commanding Admiral of the Russian navy received a letter from Ramius, and not two hours after that he issued the mass scrambling of the vessels. Ryan then briefs all the heads of the military and the president on the current situation in a secret room in the white house. It took a great deal of persuasion but finally they all agreed that Ramius and The Red October were defecting to the United States. They soon begin to organize a plan to either be ready to welcome in their guests or to take the submarine by force. The Red October is an amazing piece of technology and the Americans are chomping at the bit to get it. Little do the Americans know that Ramius doesn't plan on being detected by the Russians or the Americans.

Day 5

Ramius is now playing games with Russian high command. He jokingly thanks the Russian Admiral for letting him command The Red October, admiral Gorshkov started to catch on that all was not right. In the same waters as the Russians were conducting their game "find Red October" The USS Dallas was on a mission to locate a Russian sub and tract it to see if it went through the canyon that the other submarines kept escaping from the Americans. Amazingly they detect on sonar a Victor class, a Charlie class, and an Alfa class all seeming to just be shooting around in the water aimlessly. The Captain of The USS Dallas decided to become the hunter not the hunted. Back at CIA headquarters they are just receiving word that a mass scrambling of submarines and warships has just occurred at the Russian port. Ryan and Greer decide to wait it out and see if this incident is just an exercise or whether they need to act upon it.

Day 4

So it turns out that Jack Ryan works for the CIA. Ryan has in his possession pictures of The Red October. He brings these pictures to Vice Admiral James Greer and they try to figure out what exactly some of the modifications on the submarine are. After much debate and Jack consulting his friend an MIT graduate and has a major in Engineering. It is decided that the two mystery doors are for a new propulsion system that can allow the submarine to move not detected by sonar. They were correct. This worries the CIA and they decide to keep a close monitor on The Red October. Oddly enough they have no idea that The Red October has even left port.

Day 3

You now learn about Ramius' background. He was always the misfit in his childhood. As a child he began to scrutinize Communism. He believed it ignored basic human need and that Marxism "...striped away the the foundation of human dignity and individual value." Later on in his life after going to many military schools and many military programs he met and married his wife Natalia. Sadly one day his wife complained about abdominal pain, and she was rushed to a hospital. Unfortunalty the surgen was a drunk and took to much time and the appendix burst. She was started on antibiotic theropy but the drugs they used were not up to the calibur they should have been because they were made in the Soviet Union. They couldn't get any good pharmasudicals from foriegn counties because they were in short supply. Sadly Natalia died which left Ramius devistated. Ramius can not seek vengence on the surgen because he is protected by the party elite. He decides there is only one option left, he will seek his revenge on the Government. And odly enough most of his crew are outcasts or have been supressed, most likely they will go with him, and they have in their possession the most powerful submarine in the Soviet Navy

Day 2

We now meet an American author by the name of Jack Ryan who happens to be living in England. He has a young daughter and needs to fly to Washington on very important business. Then shifts from Ryan's home in England to The V. K. Konovalov where you meet Ramius' understudy Captain Second Rank Viktor Alexievich Tupolev who is on another submarine. He will be one of the many hunting The Red October in this military exercise. He is hell bent on finding his former teacher and he will let nothing stop him from finding Ramius and possibly receiving a new promotion or even his own ship.

Day 1

Marko Ramius is the soviet commander of the newly built submarine The Red October. He has helped build the submarine and he is very connected to it. The crew has been given a mission, and that is to travel west past the north cape of America, then Norway, then turn south towards the Atlantic Ocean. And they must not be detected by the Americans or the new soviet recruits on new submarines because this is the Red October's test. At the end of the first day Ramius killed the political officer, Captain Ivan Yurievich Putin, and made it look like an accident. Ramius must have something against either the Government or just that one person or really that death was really just a waste, and just like any other Tom Clancy novel someone has to die immediately.
